All Creatures Great and Small: Local Glass Artist’s Hand Made Glass Cardinal Ornament Finds a Perch On the White House Christmas Tree.

Cleveland, Ohio December 13, 2002 – Abbott Glass Designs artist Katherine Abbott is exhibiting her lampworked glass art on the White House Christmas tree.

The White House holiday theme for this year is "All Creatures Great and Small". To fit within this theme, Katherine created a glass interpretation of a Northern Cardinal, which is indigenous to the state of Ohio. The glass sculpture hangs form one of the branches on the 18-foot Noble fir in the oval-shaped Blue Room on the main floor at the President's mansion.

In addition to being chosen to have her ornament adorn the tree, Katherine had an opportunity to see her ornament on display at a formal holiday reception hosted by the First Lady. Katherine also had an opportunity to meet Mrs. Bush during the tree trimming reception. "It was a wonderful honor to meet Laura Bush and the other artists," Katherine said. "The recognition goes a long way in keeping me motivated to create."

In addition to helping to decorate the White House Christmas tree, Katherine owns Abbott Glass Designs, a virtual gallery on the web and a small studio where she creates functional works of art out of lampworked and fused glass.
